by Ashley Bromley, Executive Director During the busy 2017 Legislative Session, the AAUP-Oregon Legislative Committee tracked 190 bills and took official positions on 39 of these. While we were not successful in securing passage of all the bills we supported, none of bills that we opposed, including a suite of bills that aimed to slash PERS benefits, were passed. The greatest disappointment of the session was the Legislature’s failure to pass meaningful tax reform. by Ashley Bromley, Executive Director The Higher Education Coalition consists of the Oregon Student Association and the labor unions representing Oregon’s higher education faculty, staff, and graduate employees—AAUP-Oregon, American Federation of Teachers-Oregon, Service Employees International Union 503, and Oregon Education Association. Together, we work to secure legislation that protects and promotes the important role of higher education in Oregon.
