OSU-AAUP: continuing to organize

by Tony Vogt, activist, OSU-AAUP
The advocacy chapter of AAUP-OSU, in collaboration with The Alliance for a Socially Just University and Allied Students for Another Politics, is planning a follow up Q & A session with Howard Bunsis (who will join us via skype) sometime in May, followed the next week by a “mock Board meeting,” the details of which we are presently fleshing out with our collaborators. We are also considering how to respond to what we consider a lukewarm (at best) set of responses by the Administration to the problems of NTT faculty as highlighted through a joint AAUP-OSU/ Faculty Senate survey. We continue to meet regularly with students, staff, and other faculty via the forum provided by The Alliance for a Socially Just University. Some of us are also active in organizing the 5th Annual Solidarity Fair in Corvallis’ Central Park on May 21, a gathering of unions, community groups, and social justice organizations featuring free food; workshops on direct action, organizing skills and the role of the arts and radical imagination in social justice campaigns; a Maypole; Mr. Big, puppet of the 1%; a t-shirt printing booth sponsored by student activists; children’s activities; theater; a speak out space for readings, poetry, and music relevant to labor and social justice; a let-them-eat-cake walk, and more. Please join us if you can!
